窯元に生まれ、幼少期から陶芸が身近な存在であった山口は美濃陶に魅せられその道を追求することに決めた。瀬戸赤津焼き窯元で修行の後2004年に独立。アジアやヨーロッパを旅し、世界の文化を肌で感じた。自然体で生きる中で山口自身が美しいと思った感情を作品に映し出すことを意識して作陶する。織部の緑と鮮やかな青色のグラーデーションが作品に動きを加え、伝統的な織部に軽やかさを加えた。また透き通った海のように美しい釉薬を使った御深井シリーズも多くの人を魅了して止まない。そして山口を語る上で欠かすことのできない琳派織部の更なる進化からも目が離せない。現代に生きる日本の陶芸家として“伝統“と”今“を融合させ、自身の思う美しさを世界に発信していく山口の存在感溢れる、独創的な美濃陶の世界をぜひお愉しみください。
Born into a family of potters, Yamaguchi, who was familiar with ceramics from childhood, became fascinated with Mino pottery and decided to pursue it. After training at Seto Akatsu Pottery, he independent in 2004. Traveled around Asia and Europe and experienced the cultures of the world firsthand. Yamaguchi's ceramics are created with an awareness of reflecting his own feelings of beauty in his works as he lives his life in a natural way. The gradation of green and bright blue in the Oribe adds movement to the work and a lightness to the traditional Oribe. The Ofukai series, which uses glazes as beautiful as the crystal-clear sea, also attracts many people. And we cannot take our eyes off the further evolution of Rinpa Oribe, which is indispensable when talking about Yamaguchi.
